Our class is made up of a small group
of children, all of whom are English Language Learners. The majority of
the students are from homes where Spanish is the native language, and
the only language that is spoken at home. Our main focus at school is
to have the students increase their ability to learn and communicate in
English. The students in room 201 are all very enthusiastic about
learning English, their effort shines each day. The children are at
different ability levels and they are all continuing to make progress
with their English every day. All of the students are able to read in
English, and we have an endless amount of books to learn from at all
ability levels. The students have centers each day for an hour with
another SEI class. During this time they work with word families, high
frequency words, and guided reading books. The students enjoy working
and learning independently during that time, and they are doing great!
During math this year the students have been learning about fractions,
probability,
symmetry and much more. Ingalls has also adopted a new math component
this year called Calendar Math. This program has proven itself to be
very beneficial to the students. It allows them to work with the same
patterns and math vocabulary for an entire month, which makes it easier
for them to internalize what they are learning. |
